Alice and John's Wedding

Information for Clare Island

Hello! We can’t wait to see you on Clare Island on 6th September, to celebrate our little family. Here are all the details you need, but if there’s anything else just call Alice (0879748284) or John (0870639595).

Love Alice, John, Ada & Mae.

5 things you need to know!

Location

Our wedding is on Clare Island, off the coast of Mayo. Clare Island is the ancestral home of Alice’s grandmother Kitty McCabe and we are excited to celebrate our wedding there. We hope the sun shines for us so that we can have our ceremony on the beach, overlooked by Grainne Uaile’s Castle, and celebrate with a relaxed dinner and some music afterwards in Bayview House, just a short walk away. Alice’s relations lived at Bayview House for the first half of the 20th Century, which we think is pretty cool! No matter what, we will have a beautiful day and we are so excited that you can join us!

There are tonnes of hikes and things to see on the island and you can download the map of Clare Island and Tourist Information below:

Getting to Clare Island

NB - the Ferry needs to be pre-booked

Clare Island is three miles off the west Mayo coastline and the ferry departs from Roonagh Pier, outside Louisburgh. Roonagh Pier is 38 minutes drive from Westport. The crossing takes 15 minutes.
There is free car-parking at Roonagh Pier and people travel to the island as foot passengers. Sometimes, it can be difficult to get parking at the pier so we recommend car pooling if you can!

O’Grady’s have put on an extra ferry for our wedding party, departing Roonagh Pier at 12pm on Friday 6th September. You can call 098-23737 to book and pay on the day at the ticket office at Roonagh. The price is about €17 return.

Most of the guest accommodation is within easy strolling distance of the harbour, and accommodation providers further afield are often happy to collect you. If needed, there is taxi hire also available (098 25640).

For those of you wishing to travel at other times, you will need to book online instead. Here are the relevant details:

We love that Bayview House doesn’t have a big function room, but that means dinner will be served in a couple of different rooms in the House. Half the guests will be in the bar and the other half in the dining room.

Dress code is Casual Wedding Attire – this means relaxed but a little dressy! Feel free to go barefoot on the beach and wear shoes comfortable enough for walking up to the hotel afterwards.

Please let Alice know if you have any dietary requirements by 9th August 2024.

Plan for Day 2 - Saturday 7th

Swim, Sauna, Explore

4pm BBQ dinner at Bayview House

Saturday morning is for taking it easy near the beach, sea swims, sauna and exploring the island.

Many of the houses are self-catering. This means you will have to arrange your own breakfast. There are some options below under 'Food', but if you would like to eat in your house you can either bring some grub to cook yourself or you can order breakfasts for collection from the Community Centre by placing an order before Wednesday 4th September and pre-paying in advance on 0877703976.

We have booked the Beachside Sauna for our guests between 10am-3pm. We have paid for it in advance so it is free of charge (and reserved for our guests only) during this time.

What to Bring

Remember that the ferry is a passenger ferry so only pack what you can carry.

Accommodation

Everyone has booked their accommodation by now. Please make sure you have the details and location of your accommodation so you can factor it into getting to the beach for the 2pm ceremony.
