SOLD OUT Imbolc: Retreat and Recentre at Uisneach

SOLD OUT Imbolc: Retreat and Recentre at Uisneach

Join our Journey through the Celtic Calendar by celebrating Imbolc on the sacred and mythical Hill of Uisneach at the very centre of Ireland on Sat 31 January.

Take this time for yourself to retreat and recentre by connecting with the ancient traditions of our beautiful island and celebrating our Celtic fire Goddess Brigid and Imbolc with yoga, folklore, hiking & cacao.

Spaces are limited and these cross-quarter events always sell out quickly.

The intention of the Imbolc retreat is to allow ourselves to be held in the belly of mother nature, at the spiritual centre of Ireland, the sacred Hill of Uisneach. The Goddess Brigid - who is celebrated at Imbolc and represents fertility, rebirth, new beginnings, renewal - has a strong connection to the Hill.

We will embrace embodiment practices and use a blend of dynamic yoga asana to stoke the fires of imbolc, as well as somatic exploration, fireside meditation and yoga nidra. We will use cacao, connecting with this ancient and potent, heart-opening plant medicine to nurture our selves and our hearts in the womb of the Goddess. We will hike, learn about the heritage of the Hill and share delicious treats.

There is no other event like this on the Hill and we feel immensely privileged to facilitate embodiment practices there. @hill_of_uisneach

The best sleep meditation I know…

Sleep when the baby sleeps still not happening 😆 It’s always just too tempting to do chores/emails etc… but third time round I know that if I don’t get some sort of good quality rest at least once during the day I end up wrecked in the afternoon, just when I need energy for the other smallies.

I’ve always been a light sleeper and I have been using a chakra based sleep meditation for years. I’ve recorded a version as a winter dreamtime yoga nidra, and I’m happy to share it as it’s been invaluable to me getting to sleep/back to sleep/and just getting deep rest during the day.

I’ll send it out this evening, as a little nollaig na mban gift! Just sign up to the link in the bio to get it x

Anyone else find it hard to fall back asleep if you wake in the middle of the night?
Or even just to switch off during the day? I’ve always been terrible at napping, so since the baby arrived, I’ve leaned on Yoga Nidra a lot. Apparently I am meant to 'sleep when the baby sleeps', but its seems I am unable to do this... 😆

Science shows that Yoga Nidra slows brainwaves, calms the nervous system, and even supports neuroplasticity (your brain’s ability to adapt / rewire/ learn). Introducing a Sankalpa (a gentle intention) while in that deeply restful state allows us to plant a seed for learning and growth into our subconscious.

I’ve recorded a Winter Dreamtime Yoga Nidra that has been really useful to me in these past few months, using a chakra-based approach through the belly, heart, and head - places we hold tension, emotion, anxiety. I’ll be sharing it with my mailing list next Monday - if you’d like to try it, the link to join is in my bio. Hoping it brings you the same deep rest that it’s brought me. 🌙

Tá sé anseo ♥️
Arrived a couple of months ago and we are all so in love with him… I am very grateful to have been be able to stay slow for the last while, I embraced the fourth trimester as much as I could (thanks John! @kilbegganorganic). Life is fast with three smallies now but we’re feeling very lucky.

The birth was wild and beautiful, positive, unmedicated - 7 hrs total but I never made it to the delivery ward (again!) as I went from 2cm dilated to birthing the baby in about 4 minutes. He arrived right on his due date (not the hospitals date, but a later one I had known myself and focused on) and I felt really prepared, using beautiful opening visualisations during surges and really turning towards the intensity. I think that made a difference- I really strongly focused on the surges being a good thing, the idea that the intensity felt good and every surge meant I was closer to meeting my baby. I also insisted on a natural third stage of labour which meant that my natural oxytocin release was uninterrupted and I was on an absolute high, immediately elated, and for days afterwards.

All this to say- I am proud to have managed a natural, beautiful birth in a hospital setting. With our choices for home birth so restricted at the moment, it can be really daunting facing into the “system”, and it is sometimes an up hill battle to get the birth you want. I think you have the best chance if you are fully informed about birth (&birth choices) yourself and fully confident in using your voice to insist on the things that are important for you.

This was my second VBAC, something I’m very proud of… My team in the Coombe, especially my midwives, couldn’t have been more supportive during my pregnancy. There were a few blips on arrival in the coombe (there are so many improvements that could be made in the system…) but the work with pregnancy yoga, hypnobirthing and the focus on positive birth really did make all the difference. I’m looking forward to teaching yoga (in particular pregnancy yoga!) again but for now just trying to get used to being a mother of 3. Feeling very (very) tired but very (very) grateful for my lot, and for all the support and love around us ♥️

Taking some time after @theyogapicnic to unfurl and unwind, and focus on the growing life in my belly ♥️

Looking forward to staying slow for the coming months, practicing surrender, resonance, and flow. 🤍

On the Hill of Uisneach, we moved, shared, laughed

On the Hill of Uisneach, we moved, shared, laughed, and met with old friends & new. We sat in meditation, celebrated with cacao, explored embodiment and the teachings of yoga. We rested in deep yoga nidra, integrating our sankalpa—what we want to welcome in, what we want to tend to, nurture & grow.

The sun shone down, the fire kept us warm, and Brigid’s presence was felt all around us. A day of connection, reflection, and pure magic at the spiritual heart of Ireland. ✨

“Every day think, as you wake up, today I am fortu

“Every day think, as you wake up, today I am fortune to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it”… words by the Dalai Lama.

With a productivity mindset, this could be interpreted to mean having to do more, to be more, to achieve more, and waste no time doing it. But what if it just meant opening to beauty of the present moment, opening to grace, full heart-centred openness and lovingkindnness right in this present life, right now. Be it hum drum or exhilarating, joyful or a time of grief, it is all part of this precious human life. Spanda is the vibrant, radiant, creative energy in all things, and tuning into this pulsation with openness, awareness and gratitude is the embodiment of the yoga of wonderment.

Vinyasa flow is Thursdays at 7pm @fireandearth_yoga

There will be an extended class for the Inner Alchemy and Ancient Wisdom workshop next week, 30th January, to allow more time for reflection in circle with others and integration in yoga nidra. This is a great workshop for students looking to learn more about ‘living yoga’ and for yoga teachers looking to integrate the philosophy and teachings of yoga into their classes. Book through the link in bio.

Inner Alchemy and Ancient Wisdom: workshop on 30th

Inner Alchemy and Ancient Wisdom: workshop on 30th January 7-9pm ✨

Every couple of months on the dark moon, we will turn the Thursday class into an extended workshop from 7-9pm, delving into deeper of the goodness of blending yoga asana with ancient philosophy, ritual and yoga nidra. The first of these will be Thursday 30th January @fireandearth_yoga

This 2-hour workshop blends yoga and embodied movement with ancient yogic philosophies and spiritual practices to foster a deeper connection to the practice. Drawing on the philosophies of the Himalayan Masters (non-dual Shaiva Tantra, Tibetan Buddhism, and in particular the activation of Shakti energy), the workshop explores how these teachings can inform and enrich a yoga practice and our lives as a whole. A flowing vinyasa sequence and embodiment practice guides the flow of energy, navigating awareness through mindful movement, breath, and intention. The workshop also includes ritual, reflection and philosophy circle and Yoga Nidra, providing space to integrate the practice and teachings.

This workshop invites us to explore our own inner alchemy and delve into ancient philosophies, allowing us to discover the beautiful ripple effect this practice can bring to our lives.

Book now on my website alyceharrisonyoga.com or through the link in my bio.

Spaces are limited.

There is such beauty in grounding before expanding

There is such beauty in grounding before expanding, in the simple cue ‘root to rise’… By stabilising and grounding in embodied awareness (rooting down), and then moving from that place, you can channel this energy upward, leading to increased freedom of movement and expansion.

Off the mat, this practice reminds us to take a moment, take a breath, to stay in our bodies and grounded in moments of challenge, rather than moving from reactivity only.

Grounding in embodied experience anchors you in the present moment, establishing a connection to the earth, body, and breath. Feeling this connection with the earth allows expansion into the vastness of consciousness. Ancient philosophies teach that the individual and the universe are not separate - the nondual nature of reality, where the path is the return to our true, divine essence, already interconnected with the whole.

Looking forward to the new series of vinyasa classes starting this Thursday at 7pm @fireandearth_yoga . Book through link in bio.

New class💫

Join me for Vinyasa Flow at 7pm on Thursdays in the beautiful studio that is @fireandearth_yoga

Starting next week, 16th Jan, this class is for anyone who wants a dynamic and intelligent flow, but also feels the call to go a little deeper into the teachings of yoga.

The focus is to lay the foundations of a meaningful sadhana: a path toward living yoga with skill, grace, and presence. We will weave ancient yogic philosophies with embodied movement and yoga asana.

The idea is to navigate awareness through flow, explore the intelligence of the body, honour the breath, and ignite Shakti within. Dynamic and strong, yet attuned to subtle energy, this practice invites you to explore the alchemy of body, open to grace, breath, and awareness so that we can embody yoga as a living practice—one that transcends the mat and permeates your daily life.

Hope to see you on the mat as we delve deeper into the practice together 🙏💫 Book through link in bio.

Still feeling the magic, the connection and the beauty of our Samhain journey to the mythological centre of Ireland. There is something incredibly special about the Hill of Uisneach and we are so privileged to have permission to journey there to celebrate the Celtic Calendar for the last few years. @hill_of_uisneach

Thank you to the beautiful souls we journeyed with this time- it was such a fun, reflective, deep, grounding and restful time together and the conversations that were sparked during our reflections on Samhain are still playing on our minds. The embodied movement, the exploration, the bare feet connecting with the Earth of the Hill, sharing laughter and sadness, sharing a space for deep rest and turning inward….. feeling the love and the inspiration still. Thank you 🙏

Journey through the Celtic Calendar: Samhain Celebration at the Hill of Uisneach
17 November 2024
2-6pm

Our final yoga event at Uisneach this year will be our Samhain Celebration. @hill_of_uisneach

Join us for this Samhain event on the sacred and mythical Hill of Uisneach - a place where the veil to the otherworld is thin. Since pre-Christian times, Uisneach has been regarded as the ceremonial & sacred centre of Ireland. There is no other event like this on the Hill and we feel immensely privileged to facilitate embodiment practices there.

Taking place Sunday 17th November 2024, ending the Celtic Wheel of the Year and marking the beginning of a new one.

Spaces are extremely limited and these cross-quarter events always sell out quickly.

We will embrace embodiment practices and use a blend of yin, restorative, and yoga nidra, embracing the darkness, shedding skins that are no longer needed, dropping into the body and readying us to descend into the darkest part of the year so that we can rest and renew.

We will use cacao, connecting with this ancient and potent, heart-opening plant medicine to nurture our selves and our hearts in the womb of the Goddess.

We will hike, learn about the heritage of the Hill and share delicious treats.

This event is anchored in the indigenous wisdom of this Celtic celebration of fire, and the experience will allow us to deepen our connection with our own land, our ancestors and our inner guidance.

For bookings: use link in BIO or check out Sidhe Yoga Celtic Calendar Events on www.alyceharrisonyoga.com/samhain/

Location: Hill of Uisneach, Rathnew, Loughnavalley, Co Westmeath.
